Dear Guests, Sport friends and Athletes,

It is a great honour for Hungary to welcome the most prestigious event of the karate world, the WKF Senior World Championships. It makes me even more proud and satisfied that after organizing the Senior, then the Cadet, Junior and U21 European Championships within 10 years, the Hungarian Karate Federation hosts this exclusive karate tournament. Budapest is located at the heart of Hungary and Europe, and we will do our best to make your stay unique and enjoyable during the Championships. It is our intention to set a good example in terms of organization and hospitality. The prestige of karate has increased sensibly after the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Here in Budapest we are highly committed to fulfill these expectations. Sport has an emphasized role in Budapest, we have hosted significant tournaments in the recent years. The WKF Senior World Championships perfectly fits among these line of events.

Here I would like to take the opportunity to express my gratitude to the World Karate Federation and President Antonio Espinós for choosing Budapest from the many candidates, and I also thank the Goverment of Hungary for its support.

The traditions of this tournament and the high standards set by our predecessors inspire us to make this Campionships truly a celebration of our beloved karate. We truly hope for a exciting tournament full of enthusiastic spectators, and we wish a lot of success, professional experience and fair fights without injuries to the participants!

Dr. Mészáros János József,
president of the Hungarian Karate Federation

26th Senior World Championships – Budapest

Budapest is the capital of Hungary, situated in the heart of the Carpathian Basin. With the territory of 525 km2 and 1.7 million inhabitants, it is one of the largest capital cities in the region. It is often referred to as the „Paris of the East”; a city with wide avenues and green parks, palaces built in the Art-Nouveau style, churches painted in vibrant colours, exciting cafes and excellent music halls. Budapest is youthful and dynamic where modern and tradition go hand in hand in harmony. The city is divided by the winding Danube river which is crossed by eight splendid bridges.
